About the Communication Disorders Clinics
The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences operates two Communication Disorders Clinics within the Beaver College of Health Sciences. The Clinics operate as a single non-profit organization, providing prevention, assessment, and treatment services in the areas of speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders to people of all ages from the Boone and greater High Country region. Charles E. and Geneva S. Scott Scottish Rite Communication Disorders Clinic
Established in 1968 and located in University Hall, the Charles E. and Geneva S. Scott Scottish Rite Communication Disorders Clinic serves children who have speech and language disorders that are primarily behavioral or developmental in nature. Through the generous support of the North Carolina Scottish Rite Masonic Foundation, we are able to provide these services to children regardless of their family’s ability to pay. This Clinic also serves adults with behaviorally-based communication disorders.
Interprofessional Communication Disorders Clinic
Established in 2018 and located in the Leon Levine Hall of Health Sciences, the Interprofessional Communication Disorders Clinic provides speech-language pathology services for adults and children with medically-based communication and swallowing disorders. Audiology services (for adults and children) are also provided in this Clinic.
Hands-On Clinical Experience
Clinical Learning for Students
In addition to providing speech-language pathology and audiology services to residents of the High Country, the Communication Disorders Clinics provide hands-on clinical learning experiences for students pursuing their Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Student clinicians are directly supervised by licensed professionals.
